Music

I wrote my first song sometime around 1985. Since that time I have been in the unending pursuit of the perfect song. Here’s some of what I’ve come up with. Click on any title link to reveal the player. Oh, and unless otherwise noted all recordings are me on vocals & instruments.

Songs:

Never Grow Old
Oh, the halcyon days of youth.

Steve DeMott: lead vocals, guitars & bass.
Kathleen DeMott: backing vocals
Joe Corsello: drums & percussion

Hurricane Season
A song about the storms of our soul. A new mix (with drums) is coming soon.

Steve DeMott: lead vocals, lead & rhythm guitars, bass
Frank Chiafari: rhythm guitar, backing vocals

Give Up Tomorrow
I wrote the lyrics to this while going through a bad break-up and then put them aside. Ten years later I came across the lyrics and decided it was time to put music to them. This is one of my personal favorites, even though it is just the demo recording.

Steve DeMott: lead vocals, guitar
Kathleen DeMott: vocals
Frank Chiafari: vocals, guitar

Gravedigger
A remix of a tune on my Wasted Time album with Joe Corsello on drums.

Steve DeMott: guitars & lead vocals
Kathleen DeMott: background vocals
Dave Bennett: bass guitar & background vocals
Joe Corsello: drums

A Dream Ago
Written and recorded when I was 18 or 19. It was originally going to be part of a concept album. As is often the case, the idea had more momentum than the follow-up and no other songs for the album were written.

Wondering
A demo of a song written while I watched the sunset on a quiet summer’s evening.

Steve DeMott: guitar
Kathleen DeMott: vocal

It’s Not You
A demo of a song that was slated for my (still) unfinished 2nd album about realizing the good of now rather than pining for what once was. Maybe someday I’ll finish that CD.

Hey Hey, My My
A demo of a song I wrote about a particular group of people who caused me much anguish in my early 20s.

Instrumentals:

One Last Goodbye
I recorded this when I was 18 as a goodbye to someone I never had the chance to say goodbye to.

Selah
Sometimes the music needs no words.

The Cure
A piece I wrote for an independent film of the same name.

On A Cold Winter’s Night
A piece I wrote between 1988-1989 based on a short stanza I had written. The stanza starts the piece:

The moon is smiling and the mountains laugh
The valley echoes their bitter wrath
For I have taken from their charge
Dreams to be forever ours

Dulcimer Music
A 4-track, a dulcimer I had purchased the day before at a renaissance festival and a mic plugged into a Boss digital delay pedal recorded sometime in the summer of ‘89. It makes for some interesting “texture” music.

Things I’ve Done For Other People:

Going Down To Rio
I played in a reggae band called Homebrood for a few years in the early ’90s. It was a very cool experience and really exposed me to some great new music. This is a song written by the bassist, Greg Wolfe. I happen to love the tone I got on this. My ‘62 reissue Strat through my Boogie Mark IV. You can hear the honey dripping off the strings.
