Happy New Year

Did you ever notice how some years can come and go with the only noticeable change being that last digit in the year? Then there are those years that seem to have a profound impact on your life. For me this past year was very definitely the latter.

2007 was a year of change – so much so that nothing in my life will be the same. And there was both good & bad change…but still such significant change that I know my life has diverged and can never be what it was up to that point. In some respects that’s reassuring and on others, that is very sad. As 2007 was preparing to start I remember saying to my wife “the winds of change are blowing”. And I could not have been more right. This time around I am hoping those winds die down to a gentle breeze and we can enjoy some calm.

In any event, it is a new year and a time when we typically take inventory of our lives…and knowing how it’s too easy to be overly critical of ourselves I like to recall a quote from Henry David Thoreau:

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.

and move forward knowing that my path does indeed lie before me and all I need do is to follow it, even though I may not know exactly where it leads.

Ducunt volentem fata, nolentem trahunt!
